Tolv vägar
Tolv vägar
I djupet av mitt hjärta,
en stad jag högt åtrår:
Jerusalem,det sälla hem.
Där all min nöd och smärta
för alltid avsked får.
I djupet av mitt hjärta
den staden jag åtrår.
Men Sions Berg bär färgen
av bröders spillda blod;
en klippa röd av eld och död.
Då höjs min blick mot bergen
där inga tempel stod
ty Sions Berg bär färgen
av bröders spillda blod.
Tolv vägar staden mottar
tolv portar öppnar sig
från varje tro det går en bro
och mångfald hotar ej.
Dess helhet helgar staden,
dess helhet helgar mig.
Tolv vägar staden mottar
tolv portar öppnar sig.
Den nya staden lyser,
den strålar som en sol.
Och templet är ej längre där.
Ty varje hjärta hyser
nu templets högsta tron.
Den nya staden lyser,
den strålar som en sol.
Ty varje hjärta hyser
nu templets högsta tron.
Music. Song from Oviken Jämtland,
Arrangement: Anders Nyberg
Lyrics: v 1: H.A. Brorsson 1694 -1764, v 2-4: Anders Nyberg
In 1978 Fjedur performed in Ovikens new church as a part of "Musik vid Storsjön". After the concert we met a local fiddler who shared this wonderful melody with us. Some years later, with the song, and particularly the first dramatic phrase, still in vivid memory I came across the text of the old hymn "I djupet av mitt hjärta" and noticed how beautifully the Oviken melody matched the lyrics. If you put them together they fit perfectly not only in meter and sentiment but also with the words "I djupet" - In the depth, landing on the lowest note and the word "högt" - high, on the highest note! I arranged it and a very old new song was born.
But first I had to fiddle and wrestle a bit with the lyrics as well. Mount Zion as a symbol of peace lends itself to that. Peace will come once the meaning of the twelve gates of the Revelations is revealed.
And we walk with the peace of the Lamb in our hearts through those gates...
