Lyrics: H.A. Brorson 1765
Melody: Trad from Oviken, Sweden
Arrangement: Anders Nyberg
In 1978 Fjedur performed in Ovikens new church as a part of "Musik vid Storsjön". After the concert we met a local fiddler who shared this wonderful melody with us. Some years later, with the song, and particularly the first dramatic phrase, still in vivid memory I came across the text of the old hymn "I djupet av mitt hjärta" and noticed how beautifully the Oviken melody matched the lyrics. If you put them together they fit perfectly not only in meter and sentiment but also with the words "I djupet" - In the depth, landing on the lowest note and the word "högt" - high, on the highest note! I arranged it and a very old new song was born.
When I hear it I cannot help but thinking of it as a theme-song for the Jerusalem-travellers from Nås in Dalarna, memorialized by Selma Lagerlöf in her novel Jerusalem, and later in a movie by Billie August.
